Who Is Jesus?

Isaiah 44:6   “Thus says YHWH the King of Israel 1, and 2 His Redeemer, YHWH of Hosts 3, “I am the first and I am the last 4, and beside me there is no Elohyim.” 5

1.         The “King of Israel” or the “King of the Jews”:

Mt 2:2        “He who is born king of the Jews” = Jesus

Mt 21:5      “… thy King comes to you, meek and sitting on a donkey…” regarding Jesus fulfilling the prophecy of Zechariah 9:9: “Rejoice greatly, O daughter of Zion; shout, O daughter of Jerusalem . Behold your king comes to you, He is just and having salvation, lowly and riding upon an ass, and upon a colt, the foal of an ass.”

Mt 25:31-46     “The Son of Man shall come in His glory, and all the holy angels with Him, and He shall sit upon the throne of His glory, and before Him shall be gathered all nations, and He shall separate them one from another as a shepherd divides his sheep from the goats.”

In this passage, the “King” is clearly the “Son of Man”. By v 34, “… the King [shall] say, “…ye blessed of my Father.”

cf. Mt 27:37     inscription on the cross: “The King of the Jews”

cf. Mt 27:42     “If he is the King of Israel …”

Jn 1:49       Nathanael’s confession: “You are the son of God; you are the King of Israel.” Jesus’ answer was a de facto confirmation: “Because I said … do you believe?”

Jn 18:33     “Pilate asked Jesus, “Are you the King of the Jews?” Jesus later answered, “My kingdom is not of this world…” From his interchange with Jesus, Pilate understood Jesus to identify Himself as King of the Jews (v 39)

The New Testament confirms Jesus to be King of the Jews and King of Israel. But YHWH God declares Himself to be King of Israel:

Zeph 3:15-17   “YHWH has taken away your judgements; He has cast out your enemy. The king of Israel, YHWH, is in the midst of you, you shall not see evil anymore…YHWH Elohyim in the midst of you is mighty; He will save, He will rejoice over you with joy, He will rest in His love, He will joy over you with singing.”

Is 41:21     “Produce your cause” says YHWH, “Bring forth your strong reasons,” says the King of Jacob.”

Is 33:22     “For YHWH is our judge; YHWH is our lawgiver; YHWH is our King. He will save us.”

Is 43:15     “I am YHWH, your Holy One, creator of Israel, your King.”

Ps 89:18     “For YHWH is our defence; and the Holy One of Israel is our king…”

There cannot be two kings over one kingdom, and God declared that He will not give His glory to another (Is 42:8) Only God is King over Israel, yet Jesus Christ is King of Israel.

Jesus came proclaiming the ‘kingdom of heaven’ and the ‘kingdom of God’. He did not preach 2 kingdoms, yet He claimed a kingdom to Himself in His reply to Pilate, and affirmed His own kingdom to the disciples:

Mt 16:28    “…if you shall see the Son of Man coming in His kingdom…”

Mt 25:34    the King says, ‘inherit the kingdom…’

Mr 3:24      a kingdom divided cannot stand

Lk 1:31-3   “Jesus …shall reign over the house of Jacob forever and of his kingdom there shall be no end…” (Is 9:7)

Jn 18:36     “My kingdom is not of this world … now my kingdom is not from here.”

Eph 5:5      “… for this you know, that no whoremonger, nor unclean person, nor covetous man who is an idolater, has any inheritance in the kingdom of Christ and of God.”

2 Ti 4:1      “… and the Lord Jesus Christ who shall judge the quick and the dead at His appearing and his Kingdom…”

2 Ti 4:18    And the Lord shall deliver me from every evil work, and will preserve me to His heavenly kingdom…”

Heb 1:8      “But unto the Son (he says), “Your throne O God is forever and ever, a sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of your kingdom…”

Rev 11:15  “The Kingdoms of this world are become the kingdoms of our Lord and of his Christ, and He shall reign forever and ever…” He is singular; who shall reign? Which one: the Lord or his Christ?

Mt 28:18    “All power is given to me in heaven and in earth…”

There is only one kingdom, and there is only one King. If God is King, and Christ is King, Christ must be God.

2.                  YHWH King of Israel and His redeemer say what is said.

3.                  God’s redeemer is also called YHWH of Hosts

4.         The First and the Last

Is 41:4       “Who has wrought and done it, calling the generations from the beginning? I, YHWH the first and with the last, I am he.”

Is 48:12     “Listen to me, oh Jacob and Israel, my called: I am he, I am the first, I also am the last…”

Revelation 1:11     the ‘voice’ behind John said, “I am Alpha and Omegathe first and the last,” and “What you see, write in a book and send to the seven churches in Asia…” John ‘turned to see the voice that spoke with me. And being turned, I saw … in the midst of the seven candlesticks, one like to the Son of man…and … fell at is feet as dead.”

Rv 1:17-18      The same person whom John saw said, “Fear not. I am the first and the last. I am He who lives and was dead, and behold I am alive forever more. Amen, and have the keys of hell and of death.”

Rv 2:8        “… these things says the first and the last, who was dead and is alive…”This is the same speaker as 1:17-18

Rv 22:12-16    esp. 13, 16       “I come quickly … I am Alpha and Omega, thebeginning and the end, the first and the last … I Jesus …”

1:8             “’I am Alpha and Omegathe beginning and the ending,’ says the Lord Who is and Who was and Who is to come, the Almighty.”

1)            Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end is the Lord God almighty. (1:8; 22:13)

2)            Alpha and Omega is the first and the last (1:11, 22:13)

3)            The first and the last is He who was dead and how lives (1:17-18, 2:8)

4)            He who was dead and is now alive is Jesus (cf 3:18) **

5)            Alpha and Omega is the Lord God Almighty (1:8)

6)            The first and the last is YHWH (Is 41:4, 48:12)

               a.       YHWH = Alpha & Omega = the first and the last = YHWH

               b.      Jesus = the first and the last  = Alpha and Omega = YHWH

7)            The beginning and the ending is the Lord God Almighty (1:8)

8)            The beginning and the ending = the first and the last (22:13)

9)            The first and the last = the Lord God Almighty

10)        But the first and the last is Jesus (1:17-18, 2:8) therefore Jesus is the Lord God almighty.

… Who Is Coming

Alpha and Omega, the Lord God almighty is, was, and is coming (1:4, 1:8, 4:8, 11:17)

Rv 4:8        “… and they rest not day and night saying, ‘Holy, holy, holy, Lord god Almighty, who was and is and is to come.”

Rv 11:17    “…saying we give you thanks, Oh Lord God Almighty, who are, and were and are to come, because you have taken to yourself your great power and have reigned…”

                   Jesus is He who is coming (3:11, 22:7, 12, 17, 20)

Rv 3:11      “Behold I come quickly, hold fast that which you have that no one take your crown.”

Rv 22:7, 12, 17, 20      “’Behold I come quickly, blessed is he who keeps the saying of the prophecy of this book… and behold I come quickly and my reward is with me to give everyone according as his work shall be … And the spirit and the bride say “Come” and let him who hears say , “Come”, and let him who is thirsty come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely… surely I come quickly.’ Amen, even so, come Lord Jesus.”

Jesus is Alpha and Omega, Lord God Almighty, Who is coming.

Alpha and Omega is He who sits on the Throne:

Rv 21:5-8  “And He who sat upon the throne said, “Behold I make all things new. And He said to me, ‘Write, for these words are true and faithful. And He said to me, ‘it is done. I am Alpha and Omegathe beginning and the end. I will give to him who is athirst of the fountain of the water of life freely. And he who overcomes shall inherit all things, and I will be his God and he shall be My son. But the fearful and unbelieving and abominable and murders, and whoremongers and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake that burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Jesus sits on the throne:

Rev 3:21    “To him who overcomes I will grant to sit with me in my throne, even as I also overcame and am set down with my Father in his throne.”
(cf: Mt 19:28  “Truly I say to you that you who have followed me in the regeneration when the Son of man shall sit in the throne of his glory, you also shall sit upon twelve thrones judging the twelve tribes of Israel.”)

Heb 1:8      “But unto the Son He says, ‘Your throne O God is forever and ever. A sceptre of righteousness is the sceptre of your kingdom.”

Rev 7:17    For the Lamb who is in the midst of the throne shall feed them, and shall lead them to living fountains of waters and God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes.”

Rev 20:11  “And I saw a great white throne and him who sat on it, from whose face the earth and heaven fled away and there was found no place for them. And I saw the dead, small and great, stand before God and the books were opened, and another book was opened which is the book of life, and the dead were judged out of those things which were written in the books according to their works…”

Rev 22:3    “And there shall be no more curse, but the throne of God and of the Lamb shall be in it, and his servants shall serve him…”        Throne is singular, not ‘thrones’. And although there is one throne, and two titles, the pronouns are singular: “hisservants”, “serve him”, “they shall see his face”, “his name shall be on their foreheads”

Alpha and Omega, the beginning and the end = He who sits upon the throne = Jesus

The Lord God almighty = Alpha and Omega = the beginning and the ending = the first and the last = he who was dead and now lives = Jesus

There is Only One Elohyim, which is YHWH

De 6:4        Hear oh Israel, YHWH our Elohyim is one YHWH.

1 Cor 8:4   “As concerning therefore the eating of those things sacrificed to idols, we know that an idol is nothing in the world, and that there is no other God but one.”

Is 37:16     O YHWH of Hosts, Elohyim of Israel, that dwellest between the cherubims, thou art the Elohyimeven thou alone, of all the kingdoms of the earth: thou hast made heaven and earth”

Jn 17:3       “And this is life eternal, that they might know You, the only true God, and Jesus Christ whom You have sent.”

1Th 1:9      For they themselves show of us what manner of entering in we had unto you, and how ye turned to God from idols to serve the living and true God;

Is 43:10     “’… before Me there was no Elohyim formed, neither shall there be after Me … I have declared and have saved and I have shown, when no strange god was among you, therefore you are My witnesses,’ says YHWH, ‘that I am El.’”

Is 45:5, 6, 21, 22         “I am YHWH, and there is none else, there is no Elohyim besides me…that they may know from the rising of the sun and from the west that there is none beside meI am YHWH and there is none else…who has declared this from ancient time… and there is no Elohyim else beside me, a just El and a saviour, there is none beside me. Look to me and be saved, all the ends of the earth, for I am El, and there is none else.”

Is 46:9       “Remember the former things of old, for I am El, and there is none else, I amElohyim and there is none like me.”

Jer 10:10    “But YHWH is the true Elohyim, he is the living Elohyim and an everlasting king…”

Jer 32:27    “behold YHWH am the Elohyim of all flesh…”

“And we know that the Son of God is come and has given us an understanding, that we may know him who is true, and we are in him who is true, in his son Jesus Christ. This is the true God and eternal life.”

There is only one living and True God, Whose name to the Hebrews in Egypt was YHWH – I am that I am. Elohyim of the Hebrew Scriptures is a plural deity – three members of one godhead, all divine, all spirit. We see Him who would come as Messiah to take on the nature of human flesh in order to redeem us from death, we see Him Who is the Father, we see Him Who is called only “the Holy Spirit”. The Hebrew Scriptures reference three identities, and the New Testament identifies and clarifies who these three are. YHWH Elohyim – each one, “I am” – is the only God, the living God, and the true God.

Every title assigned to Jesus was claimed by YHWH in the Hebrew Scriptures. In addition, YHWH declared that YHWH is the only true God, king, redeemer, saviour, holy one of Israel or Jacob, judge, etc. If YHWH is the only one of these things, then it is impossible for Jesus to be another one of any of them. Jesus cannot be someone other than YHWH and still be redeemer, king, saviour, or the Holy One of God. He must also be a member of the only living and true Elohyim, as there is only one Elohyim. If Jesus were ‘a’ god, but not the only living and true God, he would necessarily have to be a false god.

The only Biblical conclusion, regardless of whether we fully understand it or not, is that Jesus Christ is a member of the godhead Elohyim, fully divine, fully God, presenting Himself to men in human flesh. There are several hundred passages which confirm this fact beyond any debate. Remember, if he who has the Son has life, and he who does not have the Son of God does not have eternal life; if any who do not believe that Christ is will perish, it is eternally imperative to know the real Jesus Christ.
