Spiritual Perversion in the Church of Jesus Christ

Jeremiah 7:8-10 Behold, ye trust in lying words, that cannot profit.
Will ye steal, murder, and commit adultery, and swear falsely, and burn incense unto Baal, and walk after other gods whom ye know not, and come and stand before me in this house, which is called by my name, and say, “We are delivered to do all these abominations?”‘”

The words were spoken to Israel, but there is a principle for Christ’s church as well: We were not delivered from the condemnation of sin so that we should continue to live in sin, doing those things which God has condemned, and despising God in favour of other, more appealing “gods” that serve our satisfaction instead of our deepest need.

God’s word to us is clear concerning what is right and wrong, what is wicked and what is good. If we claim to have been cleansed by His death for our sin, we are to walk as Christ walked, led by the Holy Spirit in righteousness of practice that reflects the righteousness of Him Whose righteousness we become when we are forgiven through faith in His blood: 2Co 5:21 “For He (God the Father) has made Him (Jesus Christ) to be sin for us, Who knew no sin; that we might be made the righteousness of God in Him.”

“… they have set their abominations in the house which is called by my name, to pollute it.” Jeremiah 7:30b

Each Christian born of the Spirit by faith in the blood of Christ shed for our sins, and His resurrection that brings us everlasting life, is the “house of God”. The Holy Spirit lives in us, and we are His “dwelling”, as Jesus told His apostles and Paul clearly and repeatedly wrote. (John 14:17; Rom 8:9-11; 1 Cor 3:16)

Yet millions have come to bring the abominations of the pagans into the “house of the Lord”: yoga, meditation, spiritism, divination, the idolatry of self-esteem, dominionism, and others. Every one of these ideas and practices come from the enemy of the Lord and of His people, designed and marketed to lure men away from the only living and true God, to despise His grace, to pervert His gospel, and to bring disrepute on His name, His church, and His word.

In Revelation 18, Jesus is recorded as calling His people out of the great Babylon, the “whore” with whom spiritual adultery is committed, and who draws all men into wickedness. We are not to partake of her sins, that we not receive the judgment coming to her.

Why then, as if Christ’s blood was cheap and common, do those who claim His name and His salvation, continue to engage these things that may give a sense of well-being in the physical or psycho-emotional aspects, but which have come from false teachings about God, spirit, and humanity, and are empowered by the enemy of our souls?

We cannot partake of the table of demons and of Christ; we must choose between them. We do not need the wisdom or methods of the world’s religions to be better Christians or better people, or healthy, or smart, or successful. God has given us everything we require for life and godliness (2 Pet 1:3); we have all and are full, because we have Christ, by Whom we have the Father, and from Whom we have received the Holy Spirit to lead us into all truth.

Friends, most of us recognize these as the last days; we have turned a corner in terms of what God has told us for the final season of this world system. Many professing faith have fallen to lies, and been led away by heretics and occultists. We must stand in the absolute truth of the Scriptures, if we are to withstand against the efforts of the devil to stumble and disgrace the church of Jesus Christ. We must resist the tempation to feed our desire for comfort, happiness, welcome, respect, or anything else that has not been served to us by the Lord Jesus, because by all these things, His people are led astray and by these things those outside are held captive, insulated from the only truth that can save them: Christ crucified for their sins, raised from death to show His power and godhead, and exalted to the right hand of the Father in heaven, interceding for His church, judging wickedness, and preparing for eternity of peace.

Don’t “drink the kool-aid”, don’t follow the crowd. Don’t be deceived, but be steadfast and immovable by the power of the Spirit and the pure Word of Truth. Maranatha
